As a brand owner, you spend a significant amount of time creating the right type of content, but it seems you’re not getting the expected reach or traffic to your website. You probably start getting frustrated; not knowing what to do. This is because of one thing: SEO

In today’s digital world, there are over 5.2 billion people online with hundreds of millions of websites accessed every day. People are out there, searching for what you offer, but they just don’t know where to find you. That’s where SEO (Search Engine Optimization) comes in: it’s like adding a brightly lit sign and a map that leads customers straight to your door.

SEO is the art of boosting your online presence so that search engines like Google guide people right to your site. For brands, it’s essential to help you reach the right audience, drive traffic, and establish credibility without relying on paid ads or expensive software to boost your visibility online all the time.

In this blog, I will be sharing with you based on experience, some of the top SEO tools that can elevate your brand’s visibility and how you can effectively use them to improve your site’s SEO performance.

The Importance of SEO to Your Brand and Why You Must Improve Yours

Before I move on, why is SEO so important for brands looking to expand their digital presence?

The importance of SEO in boosting a brand’s visibility cannot be over-emphasized. SEO is not just a marketing tactic; it’s a fundamental element that can significantly impact a brand’s success in the digital landscape.

Effective SEO enhances your brand's visibility, credibility, and ability to attract organic traffic by optimizing content to appear high in search results. In a competitive landscape, SEO is essential for building trust and expanding reach.

However, there are challenges to brands in having SEO that actually works. From issues of keeping up with the algorithm and keeping up with frequent algorithm changes—what worked yesterday may not work today. You, as a brand owner, may also struggle to stand out in saturated markets, where competitors are targeting the same keywords and audiences. Additionally, creating optimized content that engages while satisfying technical SEO requirements can be overwhelming.

This is where SEO tools become invaluable. I have tested twelve different SEO tools, and I will be showing you through practical feedback how they can help track algorithm updates, monitor keyword performance, and analyze competitors in real-time. With the right tools, you can easily improve your brand’s SEO and stay visible and connected with your audience online.

Practical Experience with each SEO tool and how to use them

This is practical feedback on twelve out of the twenty-eight SEO tools that can be used to improve websites and help in increasing its visibility in search engines. Most have single functions focused on keyword searches, traffic tracking, backlinks and some can be used to perform multiple functions. The feedback covers tools that have been tested and screenshots of results and recommendations based on results.

Google Page Speed

This SEO tool is used to check the speed and usability of your site across multiple devices. It also checks how fast it takes your site to load. It also provides recommendations for improvement which help boost user experience and search rankings. I tested the Pagesence site with the Google Page Speed and it was able to give me accurate results based on how the site performs on both mobile and laptop.

All you have to do is: Go to the Pagespeed Insights site, then, enter your website URL and click on ‘Analyze’. The site would then generate the speed scores for mobile and desktop for your site.

It’s also completely free to use.

Answer The Public

This is used to search-relevant keywords. You can also use it to search for commonly asked questions related to the keyword you’re searching for.

To search, visit answerthepublic.com and enter a keyword or topic relevant to your content. Then you can browse the generated questions and ideas to create targeted content.

It also searches for answers across different social media platforms and can give answers based on location or territory.

Ahrefs Backlink Checker

This is a backlink checker that checks how many sites your website’s URL was on and how many linked websites. To use this tool, go to https://ahrefs.com/backlink-checker and input your website’s URL to check for backlinks. You can then review the list of backlinks, analyze domain authority, and look for linking opportunities.

It’s also free to use though has a paid version. It should also be noted that the free version has limited trials.

Google Trends

The next SEO tool I tested was Google Trends. You can use this SEO tool to check the popularity of a keyword or topic. You can use this to test how well a certain keyword or topic is trending with your target audience and what words/topic you can use to attract them. I tested “digital marketing” and “graphic designer’ as two keywords. You can also compare keywords and know which one is performing better than the other. You can search by location also.

To access this tool, simply click on https://trends.google.com and type in a keyword to see its popularity over time. You can use trending topics to optimize your content for what’s currently popular.

SERP Robot

This SEO tool is also used to track keyword checks and alerts mainly. It tracks your site’s keyword rankings on SERPs. To access this tool, go to serprobot.com and add your keywords and website URL. Then you can run a SERP check to track your rankings and see where you stand in search results.

Though, it doesn’t give a well detailed report like the other SEO tools I used earlier to check for keywords.

Copyscape

This tool is used to check out any similar sites or content that is similar to yours on another page. It detects duplicate content across the web and helps you avoid penalties from search engines for plagiarism. You can access it by going to https://ww.copyscape.com/ and proceed to enter the URL of the content you want to check for duplicates. However, when I tested it out with a site URL, it didn’t bring up much of a detailed answer. A similar SEO tool might be better recommended but you can still test it out for your content.

Google Alerts

This is an SEO tool that you can use to track whenever a certain keyword or site is being mentioned online. You have to sign up to receive the alerts daily on your email. It sends you notification of certain keywords and allows you to track brand mentions and stay updated on industry topics. You can go to www.google.com/alerts and enter the keywords or phrases you want to track and create your alert.

Google mobile friendly

Mobile compatibility is a key SEO factor. This is a tool that is used to verify how usable your website is on mobile devices. Its free to use also and is a good tool to monitor mobile friendliness.

To use this tool simply go to https://search.google.com/test/mobile-friendly and enter your website URL and click on test URL. You can also review any usability issues and implement recommendations for mobile optimization.

Ahrefs Website Authority Checker

This is a tool to check the URL and domain ranking of your site. It’s similar to the backlink checker also. It can also measure your page strength and help you understand your site’s credibility relative to competitors. You can use it to check backlinks and linking websites to the URL. You can simply visit https://ahrefs.com/website-authority-checker and input your site’s URL and check authority. I tested it with a site URL. It primarily measures the strength of a domain.

SEMRUSH

It is an all-in-one SEO tool. It’s a suite of SEO tools combined to check organic search traffic, authority score, backlinks, organic keyword search, paid keyword search, referring domains, indexed pages to improve content strategy and drive organic traffic. It is like the combination of various SEO tools and gives a more detailed report on these areas compared to other sites.

To use, simply go to www.semrush.com and enter your website’s URL for an overview of keywords, backlinks, and competitor insights. Use the findings to enhance your keyword strategy and monitor SEO health. You can also use the free version at first too.

Moz local listing store

This is another tool that can be used to list your business, so it is more visible locally. To use this tool simply go to https://moz.com/products/local and enter your business name and location to search for existing listings. It is limited to only US, UK and Canada region and cannot be used outside your region can also use a tool like SEMRUSH to view how your business listing appears.

Yoast SEO

This is a WordPress plugin that offers on-page SEO guidance and optimizes content for keywords. It is used to test SEO specifically for blog posts or content posted on your site. Though it should be noted that there is no available free version of the site. To use this, you have to install the Yoast SEO Plugin in WordPress and then open a page or post and scroll to Yoast SEO section.

When you proceed to click on it, it brings out guidance on optimizing keywords and meta descriptions.

Tips for those looking to Improve their SEO: Next Steps in Maximizing Results

After testing a range of SEO tools, each one brought unique insights and benefits to the table. Tools like Google PageSpeed Insights helped fine-tune website performance, while Ahrefs Backlink Checker and Google Trends offered valuable data on backlinks and search trends, respectively. Yoast SEO proved essential for on-page optimization, especially for readability and keyword placement, and Moz Local boosted local visibility by ensuring consistent business listings.

However, among the twelve SEO tools I was able to test, the best performing tool so far was the SEMRUSH SEO tool. This is because it gave a more detailed report and also included backlinks, organic search, paid keyword search and more. Its combination of keyword tracking, competitor analysis, and backlink insights made it a powerhouse for enhancing overall SEO strategy. SEMrush’s multifunctional capabilities provided an all-in-one solution, simplifying and enriching the optimization process and yielding the best results across the board. It can be used for multiple functions and is like other SEO tools combined into one.

For anyone aiming to enhance their SEO, using tools like those I explored is just the start. To make the most of these resources, focus on a few key practices.

First, prioritize consistency by regularly updating and reviewing your SEO strategy based on your tool’s findings, as SEO is an ongoing effort. Next, emphasize quality over quantity in content—using tools to find high-ranking keywords, but also to create valuable, engaging content that resonates with your audience.

Additionally, keep a close eye on your competition with tools like SEMrush, which can reveal gaps and opportunities in your market. Finally, monitor your progress with analytics to track what’s working, allowing you to fine-tune your approach for continuous improvement. By following these steps, you’ll set a solid foundation for a strong, sustainable SEO strategy.
